Alessandro Volta e’ stato un famoso fisico italiano, conosciuto soprattutto per l’invenzione del primo generatore di elettricità della storia, la pila.

Nato il 18 febbraio 1745, Alessandro Volta e’ fin da giovane un appassionato studioso dell’elettricità. Nel 1800 Volta inventa la cosiddetta “pila voltaica”, un predecessore della batteria elettrica.

La scoperta di Volta avrà’ profonde conseguenze sul futuro della scienza: per la prima volta gli scienziati poterono usare uno strumento in grado di produrre corrente intensa in modo ininterrotto, aprendo le porte alle rivoluzionarie scoperte sull’elettricità’ che segnarono l’Ottocento.

In onore del suo lavoro nel campo dell’elettricità, Napoleone lo nominò Conte nel 1810. Nel 1881 una delle unità’ elettriche piu’ importanti, il Volt, è stata chiamata in suo onore.

English Translation:

Alessandro Volta was a famous Italian physicist best known for the invention of the first generator of electricity, the battery.

Born on February 18, 1745, Alessandro Volta, from a very young age had a passion for studying electricity. In 1800 Volta invented the voltaic pile, a forerunner of the electric battery.

The discovery of Volta will have profound consequences on the future of science: for the first time; scientists were able to use a tool capable of producing intense current in continuous uninterrupted mode, opening the doors to the revolutionary discoveries about electricity that marked the 19th century.

In honor of his work in the field of electricity, Napoleon appointed him a Count in 1810. In 1881 one of the primary electric units, the Volt, was named in his honor.
