Learn Italian with our eleventh Culture Shot, inspired by an email that we received about a week ago from Laura. She lives in New Zealand and a while ago she met a cool Italian pizza maker. His dream? To participate to the Pizza Olympic Games! “I thought he was kidding”, says Laura, “but he told me it’s for real! Learn Italian language with our tenth “Culture Shot”, a weekly small bite of culture coming directly from Italy! Today we are telling a story about “Pasqua” (Easter). We’ll learn one of the most well known Italian proverbs, one that says a lot about Italians and their philosophy of life. In the meantime, we’ll review and practice some useful expressions like “vicino” (near), “lontano” (far), and the use of the particle “che” (that, which). Happy Easter, everybody!

9. Remember The Flag (Culture Shot)

Today we are going back in time, when young Italian students had to memorize a cute “filastrocca” (riddle) to learn the colors of the Italian flag. While jumping from Sicily to the Alps, we’re going to see how to name different colors: “verde” (green), “bianco” (white), “rosso” (red), and Jane’s favorite, “arancione” (orange). Enjoy!

8. Sanremo Is Always Sanremo! (Culture Shot)

Learn Italian with “Culture Shot” (”Colpo di Cultura”, in Italian), a weekly small bite of culture coming from Italy. Today we’ll talk about the most important event of Italian pop music, the Sanremo Festival. The Sanremo festival, a song contest running since 1951, is so popular amongst Italians that it is often referred to simply as “Il Festival” (The Festival). How we say in Italy, “Canta che ti passa…”. Enjoy!

Learn Italian language with our seventh “Culture Shot” (”Colpo di Cultura”, in Italian), a weekly small bite of culture coming from Italy. Today we’ll talk about an all Italian recipe (”una ricetta tutta italiana”): The Midnight Spaghetti. The main ingredient is… a nice night out with friends. Right when you think it’s time to go to bed, one of the friends says: “Guys, why don’t we go to my place for spaghetti?” It’s almost midnight, and you really should go, but… can you say “no” to your friends? No way! Enjoy your spaghetti, everyone!
