Who’s Pierino? Litte Peter? Why the name Pierino?

In Italy, I heard the expression ‘ti perdi in un bicchiere d’acqua’. I liked the expression and did a bit of research. I found out that it means ‘to get confused by something trivial’ or ‘to get lost in the details’, but I couldn’t find any equivalent expression in English.

There’s a whole series of Italian jokes about a mischievous boy called Pierino – not sure why and how the name stuck. One could say that Pierino is the Italian version of Little Johnny http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Johnny

We have a similar expression in Spanish.
Te hogas en un vaso de agua. You drown in a
glass of water. You get shook up over small things.
