30. When The Phone Rings, Be Ready! (5 Min. A Day)

  Level: 5 Minutes A Day

LearnItalianPodLearn Italian with LearnItalianPod.com – Talking on the phone can represent the ultimate challenge for someone learning a foreign language. In fact, on the phone you only rely on tone of voice and the words spoken, and you don’t have body language to assist you in understanding. That’s why talking on the phone in Italian is both indispensable (if you ever need to do it in real life) and a great exercise to dramatically improve your knowledge of the language.

So, let’s get the phone ringing and practice two great, “real-life” phone conversations in Italian. The two phone conversations you’re about to hear, one informal and the other formal, will greatly improve your vocabulary, comprehension of Italian, and understanding of Italian culture. Enjoy!

I particularly enjoyed this lesson. Yes, speaking of the phone is the ultimate challenge for me. This episode makes it easier. — Posso parlare con… sounds less formal than Mi passa… — Is it? — Thank you!

Could you explain the construction “faccia sapere a”? — Is faccia imperative formal of the verb fare? How’s the informal of this construction, “fai sapere a”?
