April 7th, 2007 at 8:41 pm“Noi” is a nominative pronoun, while “ci” is a reflexive/objective pronoun. “Noi” corresponds to “we” while “ci” corresponds to “us,” “ourselves,” or “each other.”
The particle “ci” is also an adverb and means “in questo/quel luogo” (in this/in that place).
Examples:
Sono stato a Roma e ci voglio ritornare quest’anno.
(I’ve been to Rome and I want to go back (there) this year.
Vado in montagna e ci rimango tre giorni.
I to to the mountains and I want to stay (there) three days.
The particle “ci” can also be used as pronoun with the meaning of “a ciò”, “in ciò”, “su ciò”. (to this, in this, on this).
Example:
Dante vincerà. Ci scommetto $1,000! (su questo fatto).
Dante will win. I bet $1,000! (on this).
