July 26th, 2006 at 7:26 amshouldn’t the title be ‘un’esate italiana’ since ‘estate’ is feminine?
LearnItalianPod.com Says:
July 26th, 2006 at 8:32 amIt can be with or without apostrophe.
We have left the article “una” without an apostrophe to 1) give emphasis to the title, and 2) clearly indicate the noun “estate” is feminine.
In the everyday usage “un’estate” with apostrophe is more common.
One example: the title movie “Summer Catch” was translated in Italian as “Il sogno di una estate” (The dream of a summer).

August 1st, 2006 at 10:38 amI absolutely love this site! I only wish that I had discovered it sooner. I am leaving for Italia on Tuesday! I’m so excited! At least I know that I have lessons to keep me occupied on the plane ride! I’m currently on lesson 13.
Keep up the great work!
Ci vediamo!

December 12th, 2006 at 6:21 amThis lesson was a bit harder for me than the previous ones. Maybe because of the new -future- tense. Anywhere finnally I’ve learnt it. ![]()
Apropos conjugations, I’ve found a site, where there are conjugation tables for more then 12000 italian verbs.

December 14th, 2006 at 6:23 amThanks for the link Gabor. It’s the first time I’ve seen Egli, ella, essi and esse! Then I noticed on their FAQ page:
“Egli, ella, essi and esse are rare in the everyday’s use of the Italian language, both spoken or written. They are replaced by lui, lei and loro.” Actually, come to think about it, I am familiar with - ella ha detto/she told me - but I think it’s a dialect. learnitalianpod, auitami per favore!
Buona natale a tutti.
LearnItalianPod.com Says:
December 14th, 2006 at 9:17 amDave, that is correct: ella ha detto = she said.
But almost no one in Italy would use “ella” - it’s very rare and replaced by “lei”.
So the correct way to say would be “lei ha detto” = “she said” (or “you said” FORMAL).

February 10th, 2007 at 2:05 pmWhat is the difference (if any) between “voglio” and “vorrei”? For example, would you be as likely to say “vorrei divertirmi” as you would “voglio divertirmi”?
LearnItalianPod.com Says:
February 10th, 2007 at 4:15 pm“Vorrei divertirmi” is “I would like to have fun”, while “voglio divertirmi” is “I want to have fun”.
Both sentences mean the same thing, but express two different state of mind - while the first shows desire, the second shows certainty.

Phonetics are not included on the current Learning Center.
Speaking of which - we are about to release a new version of the Learning Center in a few days - it will include more interactivity, and a better organization of the learning materials.
